Thursday Morning Sports For October 19th

In the Major League playoffs, Masahiro Tanaka allowed just three hits over seven innings and the New York Yankees shut out the Houston Astros 5-0 to take a 3 games to 2 lead in the American League championship. Game six will be played tomorrow night in Houston…..Javier Baez hit two homers and Wilson Contreras added another as the Chicago Cubs got by the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 to stave off elimination. The Dodgers lead the National League championship three games to one with game five tonight in Chicago.

In the NHL, Toronto got four goals in the first period enroute to a 6-3 win over Detroit. The Leafs have won six of their first seven games….Los Angeles beat Montreal 5-1 with Adrian Kempe scoring a hat trick. The Kings remain unbeaten and are off to their best start in franchise history……Jaden Schwartz scored three goals for St. Louis in a 5-2 win over Chicago. Jake Allen made 22 saves for the Blues.

Boston Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask had to be helped off the ice after a collision with rookie forward Anders Bjork in front of the net during practice.

The NFL has decided it won’t order players to stand for the U.S. national anthem but Commissioner Roger Goodell says he would prefer if they did.

Boston Celtics All-Star forward Gordon Hayward is expected to miss the rest of the NBA season after undergoing surgery to repair a dislocated left ankle and a fractured tibia.
