Extra Mural Manager Supportive Of Decision To Integrate Three Programs

One of the managers of the Extra Mural program is standing behind the government’s controversial decision to integrate that program with Telecare 811 and Ambulance New Brunswick under the management of Medavie.

Amelia Beaney was on the panel at the Saint John community information session on the integration and she says she is excited about the prospect of mobilizing all the staff at the three programs to in her words, communicate and work together and service the patients better in their homes.

We asked her how she sees this integration improving service.

“I see some efficiencies, some increased time to care and I hope decreased hospitalization,” says Beaney.

“By getting to the patients sooner, and for each of the disciplines to work to their level, their scope of practice, I think everyone can meet the different needs of the patients.”

Beaney says she knows transition is difficult.

“I just hope that the public and all the different players take their time and really see that in time, efficiency and quality will be maintained, will put the patient first and deliver great care.”
