It has been a tragic year on New Brunswick roadways.
In their annual report, New Brunswick RCMP state that there has been a more than 25-percent increase in deadly crashes in 2016 on roads policed by the RCMP.
Last year, Mounties responded to 58 deadly collisions which led to the deaths of 64 people. By contrast, in 2015, RCMP responded to 50 fatal collisions with 51 fatalities. 2016 saw the highest number of deaths from crashes since 2010 when 80 people were killed.
Of the 64 people whose lives were lost, 17 were in crashes that involved impaired driving and 20 were not wearing seatbelts.
