Provincial Finance Minister Cathy Rogers is touring New Brunswick listening to residents in pre budget consultations.
She says they’re listening to New Brunswickers, since with their help the deficit has been reduced by 67% since 2014.
“It’s been a goal of New Brunswickers, all of us, to reduce the deficit and have a balanced budget by the year 2020,” says Rogers. “And New Brunswickers wanted us to do this without hurting other priorities like the quality of life, [that is] health and education.”
She says this is yet another opportunity for New Brunswickers to give the government their input.
“Do they share in the same vision, still? Are these still their priorities?” Rogers muses. “And what other ideas might [they] have to bring to the table for how we can be even more successful in jobs, and economic growth and investing in education.”
Rogers says this is about “inviting their ideas to keep speaking into our plan, which we’re seeing success, I think part of the success is because we have collaborated and we’ve done this together.”
Suggestions put forward at the meeting in Moncton last night from residents included an emphasis on skills retraining, better communication, and fiscal responsibility.
