The Saint John Part of the Poverty Study Is Complete

Leading the nation in child poverty is shameful but when it comes to creating a national strategy on poverty reduction, that fact may be helpful.

An in-depth case study on poverty in Saint John is now complete and the Tackling Poverty Together project is moving on to examine the situation in other Canadian cities like Winnipeg, Manitoba and Tisdale, Saskatchewan.

136 people living in poverty in Saint John were consulted through focus groups and surveys. A large roundtable discussion with 15 different agencies included non-governmental groups working to reduce poverty along with representatives from all three levels of government.

1000 people in Saint John played a role in the project and the information gathered will provide valuable information to the development of the Canadian Poverty Reduction Strategy.

Findings from the project will be released this summer. For more information, click here
