A recent CRA poll shows two-thirds of Atlantic Canadians support screening potential immigrants for so-called “Canadian Values”.
CRA Chairman & CEO Don Mills admits the definition of Canadian values is yet to be determined, but says the need for such a definition is clearly evident.
Mills says CRA will research the definition of the most common Canadian values.
Conservative leadership candidate Kellie Leitch received a lot of reaction when she proposed screening visitors, refugees and immigrants for anti-Canadian values.
On Leitch’s website, it says fewer than 1 in 5 immigrants receive face-to-face interviews with a trained immigration officer.
She says that should be concerning to all Canadians, especially as the federal government plans a massive increase in immigration levels.
