With the Shediac Jail fire 9 days in the past, the Department of Justice and Public Safety is focusing their efforts on getting offenders and staff back on site.
Minister Denis Landry says today they’ve begun moving trailers into a secure site on jail grounds.
He says they intend to bring offenders back only once all safety and security requirements are met, which could take several days.
They also intend to begin the restoration of service to parts of the main building beginning with the kitchen and medical unit.
Landry admits having the largest correctional facility in the province offline is challenging, but praised staff and management for meeting these difficulties with ingenuity and professionalism.
