In the NHL, Charlie Lindgren, in his first appearance of the season, made 38 saves for his first career shutout as Montreal blanked Chicago 2-0……Peter Mrazek made 36 saves for the shutout as Detroit blanked Edmonton 4-0…..Calgary got by New Jersey in a shootout 5-4 and it was the Islanders over Colorado 6-4.

The Ottawa Senators have acquired centre Matt Duchene in a three team trade that also saw forward Kyle Turris going to Nashville.

The Lily Lake Pavilion was sold out for the induction into the Saint John Sports Hall of Fame of the late Vic Fitzgerald in baseball, Dave Arsenault for lacrosse, curler Ron Hutton, football player Pat Barry, bodybuilder Norm Wickens and hockey official Derek Doucette. Aaron Kennedy was also recognised with the Discover Saint John Sport Planner of the Year for attracting the 2016 Telus Cup and Rogers Hometown Hockey.

Rams quarterback Jared Goff threw for more than 300 yards and 4 touchdown passes. In other play, it was the NY Jets 34 Buffalo 21……New Orleans 30 Tampa Bay 10…..Indiana 20 Houston 14….Carolina 20 Atlanta 17…..Tennessee 23 Baltimore 20…..AZrizona 20 San Francisco 10 and Washington 17 Seattle 14.

In the NBA, the Toronto Raptors lost to Washington 107-96. Elsewhere, it was Boston improving to 8-2 after winning 104-88 over Orlando…..Atlanta 117 Cleveland 115….Miami 104 Los Angeles Clippers 101…..Houston 137 Utah 110 with james Harden scoring 56 points……San Antonio 112 Phoenix 95…..New York 108 Indiana 101 with Kristaps Porzingis scoring a career high 40 points……Minnesota 112 Charlotte 94……Portland 103 Oklahoma City 99 and the Los Angeles Lakers 107 Memphis 102.
