Big Rewards For Special Olympics New Brunswick

It was a big victory for New Brunswick’s two Special Olympics athletes who competed at the World Games in Austria.

Veronique Leblanc, who is from the Moncton area, won a gold and a bronze, both in speed skating and Jennifer Jackson, who is from the Woodstock area, won two silvers in snowshoeing.

Executive Director with Special Olympics New Brunswick Josh Astle says they are just two of the hundreds of athletes in the province who compete, “We have the fastest growing numbers in Canada, and we’re quite proud of that. Our numbers have quadrupled over the past five years. We have around 750 athletes now in community programming and that is growing everyday, we get new participants coming in. Our coach numbers and volunteer numbers have also doubled as well.”
