Saint John will prepare a bid to host the Memorial Cup for 2019, as long as they have a team that can perform on the ice.
That’s according to the president of the Saint John Sea Dogs Trevor Georgie who says that is absolutely something that’s now on their radar.
Georgie says hosting the Memorial Cup has been a personal goal for himself and the entire organization.
It was announced this week at the Alpine Room at Harbour Station by premier Brian Gallant that the provincial government would be contributing $20,000 towards the cost of having Saint John host the Q-league draft this summer.
Premier Brian Gallant supports Saint John looking to host the Memorial Cup saying that it would be fantastic.
Gallant says anytime we have the ability to host a national or international event in New Brunswick we should go for it because it boosts tourism dollars and helps create jobs.
Gallant says he’s rooting for either the Saint John Sea Dogs or the Acadie-Bathurst Titan to win.
Commissioner of the Q-league Gilles Courteau says the Memorial Cup in 2018 will be a national bid between all three junior leagues in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Memorial Cup.
