Auditions for one of the province’s most reputable orchestras are being held over the next couple of months.
The New Brunswick Youth Orchestra is always looking for new talented musicians who would like to share their love and expertise of music with others.
Chief Operating Officer Don Matheson says the orchestra ranges in size between 70 and 90 members, and they see around 150 or more auditions, and age is not a factor, “They range in age, as young as ten and as old as in their early 20’s. They come from all corners of the province. We have members of the orchestra who are in middle school, while others are in their high school years, and we have many from Universities who may be studying music as a minor.”
Members of the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra will spend years honing their craft. Some of them have spent their school years as members of the Sistema program, rehearsing up to three hours a day, five days a week.
Matheson says these positions are earned, “The prerequisites are that they are living or studying in New Brunswick and they audition for their part. Typically our orchestra ranges between 70 and 90 musicians, and we typically have 150 or more people audition.”
Auditions began this past weekend, with the last date on June 18th.
