It’s a sure sign that warmer weather is on its way: the official arrival of forest fire season.
If you’re starting a category one fire, which has a diameter of three metres or less, you should first make sure that burning is allowed in the area which you can do by calling the burn line at 1-866-458-8080 or by going to the Department of Energy and Resource Development’s website.
A written permit is needed for fires that fall into categories two, three, or four. Burning grass, for example, is a category four fire.
Applications for written permits are available at the department’s district offices.
The season starts on the third Monday of April and continues until the end of October unless otherwise stated.
