Pill Seized On Esgenoôpetitj First Nation Contain Fentanyl, RCMP Say

Health Canada has confirmed a pill seized by police on the Esgenoopetitj First Nation, formerly known as the Burnt Church First Nation, contained fentanyl.

There have been five hospitalizations in the community from suspected overdoses from this drug since last Monday and the confirmation came after an analysis from Health Canada, which describes fentanyl as a prescription painkiller about 100 times more powerful than morphine.

RCMP are continuing to investigate the death of a 35-year-old woman on the First Nation last Tuesday and are waiting for toxicology results to determine her cause of death.

They say that one of the pills seized is blue with Percocet written on them and they’re about 1 centimetre in diameter.

Police ask anyone with information about these pills to contact Neguac RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
