U.S. Duties Will Hurt New Brunswick With Job Losses

The Trudeau government says it’ll fight the United States decision to impose duties on Canadian softwood lumber which is expected to hit New Brunswick with job losses.

Premier Brian Gallant believes the Americans may need to be reminded about how important trade is for them as well as for us.

While New Brunswick is the most export dependent province in the country and the U.S. is the province’s top trading destination, Gallant also points out that 30 American states have Canada as their largest trading partner and millions of their jobs depend on smooth trading arrangements.

The duties are also expected to make housing in the U.S. more expensive.
