The Saint John Police Association is delivering a pointed message to the Saint John Police Commission……..Don’t be subservient to the political agendas or priorities of Common Council.
The President of the Police Association, Duane Squires has written a letter to the Police Commission saying it has only one legislated criterion to determine what’s needed to provide and maintain adequate police services. Once identified, Squires argues Common Council has a legislative requirement to provide the funding.
The police union is claiming Common Council is making political decisions on funding without knowledge or care about what’s required. to provide adequate policing in the city.
The Police Association also points out there has been a 38 per cent reduction in the number of police officers in the city since 1980.
