Province Urging Residents To Help Prevent Spread Of Rabies

With three cases of rabies confirmed so far in New Brunswick the province is reminding residents that we all have a part to play in stopping the spread of the disease.

All of the confirmed cases of rabies so far this year are in the Waweig area of Charlotte County. Since May of 2014, 30 cases of rabies have been confirmed in racoons and skunks in the southwestern region of the province.

You’re advised to keep your garbage and compost bins secure and don’t leave pet food outside. If you see an animal that looks like it might have rabies you should call 811.

Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Rick Doucet says in a release that this is also a good time for pet owners to get in touch with their vet to make sure their pets’ rabies vaccinations are up to date.
