Decent weather was likely a factor as visitors came out in droves over the long weekend for the season opener at Hopewell Rocks.
The property manager believes the low value of the Loonie may attract more Americans this year and the Canada 150 campaign could entice more Canadians to stay closer to home.
Noel Hamann says from Friday to Monday, visitor numbers were up by 180 percent over the same period last year.
“We had 4,000 more people. So last year on this weekend, we had about 2,200 guests and this year we had 6,200,” he notes.
Hamann emphasizes it’s still early in the season but visitor numbers are certainly getting off to a strong start.
Admission was free on Monday with a food donation and he adds the campaign exceeded expectations for the Shepody Food Bank.
