Cost Of Pollution Described As Startling

A report released by the International Institute for Sustainable Development claims pollution harmed the health and well-being to the tune of at least $39 billion in 2015. That would amount to about $4,300 for a family of four but could be much higher, perhaps even twice as high.

A tentative estimate of the cost of tap water borne pathogens in 2015 is $895 million based on what was spent on bottled water and water filtration devices.

The estimated value of lost labour output due to illness caused by pollution in 2015 is at least $800 million, according to the report.

Losses from reduced agricultural yields were estimated at $96 million in 2015.
