Organisers expect to establish a new Guinness World Record for the number of marigolds planted this year.
Planting has gotten underway and will last until June 15th. 7 thousand students from 65 schools along with thousands of volunteers will be planting the marigolds at 63 sites throughout the region.
4 million marigolds will have been planted over the last 20 years along with 100 murals being painted.
Instead of holding a celebration to mark the beginning of the planting, it will be held along Main Street North at the conclusion this year.
