It’s bound to be controversial but the city’s growth committee wants to examine whether there should be development of city owned land at Rockwood Park.
One specific 11 acre property at 1671 Sandy Point Road will be looked at by city staff with a recommendation to be made in August. There’s a lot of city owned land that could be developed. Mayor Don Darling says with city services already in place along Sandy Point Road, the mayor says it only makes sense to at least examine the potential.
Councillor Gerry Lowe says he’s surprised at how far into the park the city owned land goes.
Councillor John McKenzie says he’s opposed and Deputy Mayor Shirley McAlary has expressed concerns.
There had been a moratorium in place on developing city owned land at Rockwood Park but that was nullified when Plan SJ was adopted.
