Thousands To Walk Confederation Bridge For Bridgefest150

If you are taking a trip over to Prince Edward Island Saturday night, take note, you won’t be able to return to New Brunswick soil until Sunday afternoon.

The Confederation Bridge will be closed to traffic from 6 until 1pm, to allow something that doesn’t happen very often. Pedestrians will be able to walk and run across the Confederation Bridge..

It’s a part of Bridgefest 150, an event recognizing Canada 150.

Project Coordinator Danette Murray says it will also help celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Confederation Bridge, “Time flies it really does. Quite amazing that it is 20 years already. I know a lot of our staff have been here since the bridge opened 20 years ago, which is quite amazing as well. The bridge is in tip top shape, and people love the convenience of it.”

If you’re still interested in walking across the Bridge, registration will be open until midnight tonight, “We won’t be able to take any registrations after midnight tonight, so if you aren’t registered, then you won’t be able to participate on the Bridge, ” Murray notes.

All of the money raised goes to the IWK Foundation.

Bridgefest 150 is a three day event, with concerts, fireworks and other activities in Borden-Carleton and Summerside.

Over 10,000 people are expected to attend the three day event.
