Tighter Oil Regulations Are In The Works

The federal government is looking to reduce petroleum emissions and greenhouse gases from oil refineries and petrochemical plants. East side clean air activist Gordon Dalzell welcomes tighter regulations on what can be released into the atmosphere.

He warns with many of the pollutants, you can’t see them, taste them or smell them but they’re there.

Environment and Climate Change Canada estimates improving the quality of the air we breathe will accrue $238 million in health care benefits as well as the development of cleaner technologies.

There’s no indication when these more stringent regulations will be put in place. The federal government is still inviting public comment. The public is being invited to comment.
