Support To Help Young Immigrants With Community Transition

“In order to grow the economy, we must grow our population”.

Premier Brian Gallant believes that is key to keep the New Brunswickers we have and bringing new people here.

To that end, the province through the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour will provide over $118,000 for the Newcomer Youth On-Ramp Program.

Shilo Boucher, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Saint John, says this project meets an urgent community need because it engages youth and champions diversity.

Boucher says during the Syrian influx of 2015 they saw a lot of youth coming in at that time and they learned it’s challenging for young people to integrate into the school system even with something as simple as knowing how to play volleyball.

Zaheeb Nazir will run the new program and tells us it will be open to kids from zero to 21 but focused on middle and high school and young adults.
