In the NHL, Charlie McAvoy scored the decisive goal in the shootout on his 20th birthday for Boston as the Bruins get by Winnipeg 2-1……Kris Letang scored the winner in the shootout in Pittsburgh’s 3-2 win over Columbus…..Former Bruin Tyler Seguin scored two goals as Dallas blanked Chicago 4-0. It was coach Ken Hitchcock’s 800th career win…..Brian Boyle scored the tying goal in the third period and then the game winner in a shootout in New Jersey’s 4-3 win over the New York Rangers……League leading Tampa Bay won for the 8th time in their last 9 games, 4-3 over Ottawa in a shootout…..Elsewhere, it was San Jose 5 Vancouver 4 in overtime….Los Angeles 2 Colorado 1 in overtime…..Edmonton 3 St. Louis 2….Carolina 4 Nashville 1 and Anaheim 5 NY Islanders 4 in overtime.

In the NBA, DeMar DeRozan scored a career high 45 points and the Toronto Raptors overcame a 22 point deficit for a 114-109 win over Philadelphia. In other play, it was New York 102 Boston 93……Cl3eveland 115 Chicago 112…..Phoenix 97 Memphis 95 and Utah 100 San Antonio 89.

In boys “AAA” Varsity basketball, it was Simonds over St. Malachy’s 71-67 with Blair DeMerchant scoring 19 points for Simonds to be the leading scorer in the game and in girls “AAA” exhibition play, it was Fredericton High over St. Mac’s 85-64.

Hall of Fame broadcaster Dick Enberg has died at the age of 82 from what is believed to be a heart attack. Enberg broadcast 28 Wimbledons, 10 Super Bowls and eight NCAA men’s basketball championship games.
