Saint John Platoon Chief Steve Voutour tells CHSJ News an issue developed while a 8000 litre propane tank was being filled.
“The supplier was filling the tank was here filling it up today” Voutour says, “When they removed the line off the top the check valve malfunctioned and starting venting the product to atmosphere”.
Voutour says propane is heavier than air so it wants to migrate down to the ground and get into the sewers.
Crews put out a water fog spraying on the building to grab any vapours that are in the air and bring them into a manageable area where they disperse naturally.
