In the majors:

Justin Smoak blasted a pinch-hit grand slam to right field with two outs in the ninth inning to lift the Blue Jays to a 6-5 win over Miami.

Devon Travis set up the go-ahead opportunity with a bases-loaded walk.

Elsewhere, Boston fell to the White Sox 6-1, the Yankees downed Detroit 7-5, the Cubs lost to Philadelphia 2-1, and the Dodgers edged Arizona 3-2.

Meanwhile, the Blue Jays have traded third baseman Josh Donaldson to Cleveland for a player to be named later.

In the CFL:

A strong defensive performance powered the Alouettes to a 21-11 victory over Ottawa.

Kicker Boris Bede accounted for 14 of Montreal’s 21 points while sophomore quarterback Antonio Pipkin completed 18 of 27 passes for 242 pass yards.
