Child Poverty Numbers Can Be Reduced

Saint John’s ugly child poverty stats can be improved.
Randy Hatfield of the Human Development Council points out the success over the last 20 years in improving the senior poverty numbers through rebate programs, old age security, guaranted income supplements and the Canada Pension plan.
He says child poverty requires a national more concentrated approach.
He says it’s more than people not making enough money adding it also relates to affordable housing, food security and meeting people’s basic needs.
Hatfield says using the same “all hands on deck” approach to ending child poverty he thinks we could made a huge difference.
