Temperature records were smashed across New Brunswick last month.
In fact, it was the warmest December since 1881 when most weather records began.
Environment Canada says most communities in the province were 4 to 5 degrees warmer than normal even though snowfall was mostly above normal.
Meteorologist Claude Cote says the weather data proved more interesting once the numbers are crunched.
“The afternoon temp was milder than normal by about 3 degrees Celsius but mostly the overnight temp was extremely mild on average in the province by about 6 Celsius above normal.”
Cote believes several factors were at play last month including a strong El Nino event and the jet stream during December was mostly north of New Brunswick allowing a milder, southwesterly air flow into the province.
