A second Fredericton Police officer has been fired.
The first was Constable Jeff Smiley and now Constable Cherie Campbell has been dismissed following her arrest for shoplifting in Houlton, Maine but she is appealing the decision.
A trial was held but the jury could not reach a verdict. Despite that, arbitrator Cedric Haines ruled Campbell stole 20 dollars worth of cosmetics from Marden’s in December of 2014 and then tried to use her position as a police officer to prevent police in Houlton from charging her.
Campbell’s lawyer argued what happened was an honest mistake, claiming Campbell put some lipstick and eyeliners in her pocket after they kept falling out of her cart and then she forgot to pay for them at the checkout.
