Marsh Creek Stench Noticeably Reduced

Marsh Creek has been synonymous in Saint John for decades with a disgusting smell of raw sewage–but according to Tim Vickers of ACAP there’s been a dramatic turnaround in the health of that waterway.

Testing has revealed a 95 to 99% decrease in fecal coliform baceteria as compared to 2013.

Vickers says there are still hundreds of years worth of debris and a salt marsh in that area, so the smell will take some time to entirely dissipate, but this is a huge milestone.

Vickers says it’s the first year they haven’t got calls of complaint from the public about the odour.
