VIDEO: Sculpture Saint John 2014 Is Underway

8 international artist and 6 interns are off on their big task to beautify some peices of local granite. Sculpture Saint John is back on the Coast Guard lot hoping to build on the big success of 2012’s event.

Diana Alexander tells CHSJ News the event would not be possible with the Schoodic International Sculpture symposium in Maine who started off in 2007.

She says one of the peices they are doing is for Calais, Maine and one of the artists in Saint John is doing a peice for St. Stephen and when completed and in place they will be across the river from each other.

The goal is to create an international sculpture trail that tourists can follow in New England and New Brunswick.

The artists taking part in Sculpture Saint John are from all over the globe.

Karen Van Ommeren of The Netherlands is making a sculpture for St. Andrew’s and tells us she has been able to visit the town.

She says it gives you a lot of motivation adding she feels like people are waiting for the sculpture.

Jim Boyd of Hampton is a returning sculptor and other artists are here from Australia and France with the sculptures going some new communities like Black’s Harbour and Sussex.
