Peacekeepers Celebrate 25 Years

On this, National Peacekeepers’ Day, Maritime police forces are marking a major milestone.

They and their comrades right across the country are celebrating 25 years of contributions to international policing operations.

More than 35-hundred officers have served in 30 countries world-wide in the last quarter century, helping bring peace and stability.

Even today, over 90 Canadian police officers are on active duty, including several deployed to Haiti.

Canada’s police forces have given their officers the OK, if they wish, to wear their International Peacekeeping berets today, in
recognition of the anniversary.

The UN flag is also flying this weekend outside police headquarters across the country.
