Saint John’s come a lot way since 2003, when then-mayor Elsie Wayne decried the idea of a gay pride parade as distasteful and offensive.
This year, Pride in Saint John kicks off today with events for the whole family….there are activities planned all week until the big parade August 16.
As for why we still need a pride parade, Pride President Amanda Hensey explains it’s about helping young people feel accepted.
She says having strong positive roles are important for everyone so you can have someone to look up to and know things will get better.
