At the Canadian Junior Baseball Championship in Dartmouth, the Port City Pirates made it to the semi finals before losing to Quebec 2-1 and will play Ontario this morning for the bronze medal. Yesterday, the Pirates beat Ontario 15-8.
In the Majors, the Orioles avoided being swept in Cleveland with a 4-1 win to open up a 7 game lead over the Yankees in the American League East……The Yankees downed Tampa Bay 4-2 while the Jays fall to third place, 7 and a half games back, after losing to the White Sox 7-5. The Red Sox lost to Houston 8-1……Last night, the Oakland A’s lost to Atlanta 4-3 as former Red Sox starter Jon Lester loses for the first time since since June.
In the American League Central Division, Kansas City has opened up a 2 and a half game lead over Detroit after a 12-6 win over Minnesota while the Tigers lost to Seattle 8-1.
In the National League, the East Division leading Washington Nationals extended their winning streak to 6 games with a 6-5 win in 11 innings over Pittsburgh……Central Division leading Milwaukee swept the Western leading Los Angeles Dodgers, winning 7-2.
At the FIFA Under 20 Women’s World Cup in Moncton, France and Nigeria won to advance to the semi finals with Germany and North Korea.
In NASCAR, Jeff Gordon won at Michigan International Speedway for his 3rd Sprint Cup win of the season.
