It’s no secret that the provincial government is considering a hike to the HST.
In a news release, The Gallant Liberals reveal they are considering raising the HST to 15 per cent from the current 13 per cent.
That increase could raise $300 million dollars a year.
The government is mulling over 6 keys areas where they might find savings and increase revenue and they include “rightsizing” senior management in the civl service, reducing spending on education and health care and introducing highway tolls.
The government says depending upon the seriousness of the other choices made under the Strategic Program Review, the government could direct up to $100 million dollars of new HST revenue towards programs that would help most impacted by an increase in the HST.
Health Minster Victor Boudreau says while reviewing the government’s books they have found areas for millions of dollars in savings but he points out that New Brunswickers have made it clear that they want government to consider revenue options as well.
