It was a packed house at the Garcelon Civic Center this weekend, with two very noticable empty seats.
Local group, the Concerned Citizens of Charlotte County hosting a Town Hall Meeting for residents to discuss the options presented in the Strategic Review document, and how each of these will effect our region.
Both MLAs for Charlotte County, John Ames and Rick Doucet, were invited to the meeting, but declined to attend, each claiming they had family commitments.
Former MLA Tony Hutjens, who served in politics for eleven years, was at the meeting, and didn’t hold his tongue when speaking about the absent MLA’s. “As far as politicians are concerned, I’m aghast that these politicians are not here. When I was in politics, I always made sure that if there was a public meeting, then I would stand up and be present.”
Hutjens went as far as to say, quote, “I totally agree with the idea of having a recall system. That if a politician doesn’t stand up for his community, and voice their opinion, there should be a recall.”
