A municipal plan and zoning by-law amendment application from Horizon Management Limited, which is looking to build a major development on the city’s east side called The Crossing, coming up for public presentation at the latest meeting of Common Council.
Commissioner of Growth and Community Development Jacqueline Hamilton says the purpose of the public presentation is to initiate the plan amendment process and to start the 30 day public presentation period where people can give feedback to Common Council on the application.
Mayor Mel Norton says they’re encouraged whenever potential development opportunities exist for the city, but that being said, “we have to hear from the experts and in the case of the city that expertise comes from our Planning Advisory Committee and the staff level so council has to reserve judgement on its support for any proposal.”
According to a release, The Crossing would be built between the Saint John Throughway and Ashburn Road and include business and commercial properties, housing, community-service stores and more. It’s expected the project will be reviewed by the Planning Advisory Committee in March.
