In a symbolic gesture, Premier Brian Gallant has announced he and members of the cabinet will be taking a pay cut until the provincial budget is balanced. The pay cut goes into effect at the beginning of April.
Ministerial salaries will be reduced by 10 per cent and the premier’s salary by 15 per cent.
The Premier earns 79 thousand dollars a year in addition to the base annual salary of $85 thousand M-L-A’s receive. A cabinet minister earns more than $52 thousand over and above the 85 thousand.
