YMCA Looking For Saint Johners To Become Part Of Welcome Teams

The YMCA is looking for more Saint Johners to sign up to be part of a welcome team, which supports the government-assisted Syrian refugees as they arrive in the city and get adjusted to a new life here.

President of the Saint John Y Shilo Boucher tells us they have 17 families and 17 teams assigned and about another dozen teams ready to be assigned. However, they’ve heard they have a large number of families coming in, saying they’ve always estimated they would need upward of 100 welcome teams.

“We get new families every week so it’s not going to stop, we’re trying tomake sure we have the teams set up and ready to go and match them up with a family right away,” says Boucher.

It’s a six-week commitment and welcome teams are made up of three to five people.

There are information sessions that you can attend coming up at the Saint John Regional Y.
