Highway tolls will affect anyone in the province who drives a car or truck, or even takes a bus.
The Owner of Maritime Bus Mike Cassidy says their buses travel on New Brunswick’s highways 364 days of the year, and tolls would have a significant increase in the operating costs of the bus company.
He says, “Unfortunately, that cost would increase and for most bus companies and other frequent users, we would have to look at passing that cost of operation back onto the customer.”
In the end, customers will most likely be facing a rate increase.
Cassidy says Maritime Bus currently pays tolls in Nova Scotia, when travelling through the Cobequid Pass. Round trip, it costs $18. He says that is significantly less than what has been proposed in New Brunswick.
