Progress Made In RCMP Labour Code Charges Case

Things are moving forward in the RCMP Labour code charges case.

Defense Counsel Mark Ertel asked the judge today for a pre trial management conference this spring.

In that conference on April 7th, both the defense and prosecution are expected to come to an agreement on a statement of facts about the case.

As well, Ertel says they will enter their plea on that date.

He says the trial could take a long time because of the seriousness and complexity of the case.

The RCMP are facing four charges relating to equipment, training and supervision.

In court today the prosecution announced they would be proceeding by indictment.

If convicted, the RCMP could face up to a maximum fine of 1 million dollars and two years in prison.
