SJ Detainees Getting Nutrition Bars In Lieu of Meals

The Saint John Police Department is looking to find efficiencies wherever it safely can after recieving $320,000 less than it requestedr from common council – and one of the places that has been cut is the meals offered to people in lockup.

Police Chief Bill Reid tells CHSJ News they consulted with a nutritionist and now people who are in lockup recieve a nutrition bar and drink instead of a full meal. He says the SJPD is simply following the same best practices followed by police departments across Canada.

The maximum period of time people can be held in detention at Peel Plaza is 24 hours.
