Two apartment buildings on Peters Street had to be evacuated after a fire was reported just after midnight.
The two buildings at 27 and 27 and a half Peters Street share a common gas line which prompted both to be cleared.
The rear of the building at 27 Peters Street is described as being extensively damaged.
No one was injured but the Red Cross was called in to help those people who have been displaced.
