Ordnance Building On Sydney Street Declared National Historic Site of Canada

A building in Saint John’s South end that dates back to the mid-nineteenth century has been designated a National Historic Site of Canada.

The Ordnance Building on 274 Sydney Street was constructed in 1842 as a place to store military weapons and equipment and built by Britain’s Royal Engineers and was recommended by the Royal Commission of 1825.

The official announcement of the building’s designation as a heritage site was made by Saint John MP Rodney Weston.
