With provincial cuts and savings in the near future, the healthcare portfolio will likely take a big hit.
Chair of the Walk Cause We Care John Gardner says he wants to meet with Health Minister Victor Boudreau to talk specifically about the Charlotte County Hospital. Gardner is also involved with the Charlotte County Cancer and the Facebook page “Keep Our Charlotte County Hospital Open!!”
He tells us, there is something missing from the Strategic Program Review that the government is hoting around the province, “There’s some things that we can do to raise money, but one question that they are not asking is, ‘What do we really value that we are not going to give up?’ And the hospital is that one thing that we are not going to give up.”
He says, here in Charlotte County, we have an incredible history of giving, including the hospital itself, and last year alone two health-related charities raised over $178 thousand in one week.
He says that is like every local man, woman, and child, voluntarily taxing themselves $7 to support healthcare.
Gardner says he will be arranging a meeting with Health Minister Victor Boudreau, on behalf of the local charities, as soon as he hears back from government.
