Monday Morning Sports For March 2nd

The Canada Winter Games are now officially over and Team New Brunswick won 13 medals as well as the Canada Games Centennial Cup for the biggest improvement.

In the NHL, the Leafs were shutout for the second game in a row by Washington 4-0 as Alex Ovechkin scored his 40th and 41st goals of the season….Former Sea Dog Jonathon Huberdeau had three assists as Florida gets by Tampa Bay 4-3…..Vancouver blew a three goal lead but still managed to edge St. Louis in a shootout 6-5……Pittsburgh won its fourth in a row, 5-3 over Columbus…..Winnipeg over Los Angeles 5-2 and Anaheim downed Dallas 3-1.

The Boston Bruins have acquired forward Brett Connolly from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for a pair of second-round draft picks. Connolly had 12 goals and three assists for the Lightning this season.

The Rangers have traded with Arizona for defenseman Keith Yandle, defenseman Chris Summers and a draft selection in exchange for defenseman John Moore and top prospect Anthony Duclair as well as a couple of draft picks.

In the Maritime Hockey League, St. Stephen lost to Summerside 7-1.

Northern Ontario’s Brad Jacobs and Brad Gushue of Newfoundland and Labrador opened the Tim Hortons Brier with three straight wins to top the standings. New Brunswick is 1 and 2 after losing to Manitoba and Quebec.

In the NBA, Houston Rockets guard James Harden was called for a flagrant foul for appearing to kick LeBron James below the belt in a 105-103 overtime win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.
