Warning From Fire Chief

The future level of fire service in the city beyond this year is causing some concern with all the talk of greater industrialisation and the budget constraints at City Hall.

The budget is expected to be even tighter next year because of the additional cost of removing all the snow we’ve received.

Fire Chief Kevin Clifford says he’s happy with the current level of response but with more industrial development, that’s another question, adding he met with one industry that’s looking at a significant development beyond what has been talked about thus far.

Meantime, there’s more concern being expresed about transporting crude oil by train after another derailment in Northern Ontario, the third in the last month and the second one near Gogama, north of Sudbury.

The train was taking crude oil out east. Reports say 10 tanker cars went off the tracks with several catching fire. Plumes of black smoke could be seen billowing high in the sky.
