A fire early this morning in a vacant rooming house at 16 Pagan Place off Germain Street in the south end proved to be difficult to extinguish.
It was reported by a cab driver who happened to be passing by shortly after 4:00 with flames seen coming from the building.
It’s believed the fire began in the basement area which was awkward to get into.
As a precautionary measure, a nearby building was evacuated.
