Oland Preliminary Inquiry Draws To A Close

Dennis Oland is scheduled to appear in provincial court today, where closing arguments will be heard in his preliminary inquiry on second degree murder charges.

The purpose of an inquiry is to determine whether there’s enough evidence in a case to go to trial. There’s been a publication ban imposed on the inquiry to this point, although it’s possible that could be lifted.

Oland’s father, Richard, was found dead in his uptown office back in 2011. Dennis Oland was declared the prime suspect in the case and charged with second-degree murder in November 2013 – one year ago tomorrow. He and his family maintain his innocence.

The prelim began in May, and since has run into several delays which have extended the timeline.
