Quarantine Ends At Rail Yard

It was finally determined early this morning what the mysterious white powder was that was discovered yesterday during a routine investigation of the contents of a refigerated cargo container at the NB Southern Rail yard off Gifford Road and everyone was allowed to go home.

5 people were isolated after coming in contact with the powder.

The powder, as it turns out, is a pest control agent known as Phostoxin which is highly toxic. Public Health Canada does say people who are exposed to high amounts of it can get sick within 1 to 2 hours.

Testing by the fire department proved inconclusive. The Haz Mat team received additional testing equipment last night.

Fire crews also called to a roof collapse at 100 Industrial Drive. No one in the business was hurt and its thought the buildup of snow and ice may have been responsible.

There was another fire underneath a mobile home at 23 Robin Court. Damage was minor and no one was injured. Police are investigating.
